Funimation Reduces the Price of Heat Guy J!
Oh how things change! The re-release of the series that (the now defunct) Geneon USA once paid $80,000 per episode for the US distribution rights has been reduced in price by Funimation from $49.98 MSRP down to $29.98 MSRP:Heat Guy J Complete Collection DVD Boxed Set (Thin-Pak)
So one of the most expensive R1 licenses in history ends up costing you less than $1 per episode. Seems like there is something historic at work here, but I can't seem to put my figure on exactly what it is. Hubris comes in all forms I suppose - and so does deflation... -_^

Bandai Gets Tales of the Abyss & Turn A Gundam
Bandai (who we are all wondering about) announced at Comic-Con that they have acquired both the Tales of the Abyss and the Turn A Gundam series. No information was provided on when they might be released (or how), but I figure it will be well into 2011 before we see either of these on DVD or BD.Personally, while I'm glad, I think ∀ Gundam should have been released in the R1 around 2003 or 2004. I'm not sure how much of an audience will be left for this show after 12 years - you know, other than me. :-)

Art illustration draw step by step online. This post is pretty much continue from the previous posted Portrait study turns into quick illustration. In these steps, I just start assigning colors onto the existing values then slow paint them over the sketch as I see fits without changing much of the values.
Then I added or changed the hand that holds an apple, and the other hand to hold an ear-bud. Then I thought it would modernize the piece and it will be a nice contrast to the lithograph painting style I am trying to accomplish.
Then I slightly change some values on her face and her hair and the surrounding area because I thought it was a little too dark comparative to the environment.
I just have to look at the over all image and see it that would fit.
On the final stage, I decided to do the outline to emphasis the old school lithograph style to finish it off. Just hoping it will work out. :)

Portrait study turn into quick illustration
Portrait study turn into quick illustration. I was doing some portrait study and do step by step for the blog because I had no idea what to do at the moment. Yes, lack of inspiration happens from time to time especially when you leave you pencil and pen for a while. So I was sketching until it almost complete then I looked at it and I was like...um I could actually turn it into something else.
So first idea I had was I could put really dark over coat on her and then...a knife in her hand. I can make her an assassin! But then I thought I always do that let's change the course a bit this time. Something I don't usually do.
Then I had an idea of a garden surrounded her present and... while I was painting a camouflage or silhouette of tree branches and bushes I got an idea. Snake came to my mind. Then I totally get in the feeling of the piece. Eden, snake, apple and eventually the word "seduction" in the conclusion.
Anyway, here are the step by step for the work in process and the final piece I have so far. Still have to paint for a few more sessions.

Comcast DNS Issue - Resolved
Just a quick note for everyone who might have had an issue getting on our store site this morning. There was some sort of DNS resolution issue that Comcast customers ran into trying to access the RACS web store servers. As far as we can tell only Comcast customers were effected. The issue lasted about an hour and has been resolved.It's never a dull moment, that's for sure... :-)
Nude female figure recline quick color sketch study
Here are step by step of my figure study nude reclining lady. Just want to practice more figure and facial structure and hair on this one. Lots of time I spend on her hair and still not to the point that I want from the painting yet. I still have some work to paint more hair and such to get a good result.
In my opinion, painting hair is the same as painting any object from light using light and shadow as guideline, but it slightly trickier because you better off using some sort of texture to refine it along with regular brush, same as in oil painting. Hair is one of the more difficult subject to pull of successfully. But once I heard some master said one should keep it simple like the rest of the painting and not to complicate it. Im still trying to figure out what that means.
In this post studying values and some experimenting on monochrome toward adding some more colors after I define the values as you can see in the step by step images process.
Still a lot more painting to be done.

First for figure study, you can go take a look at female model sheet or female figure study woman body proportion sheet. Then there is a speedpainting figure study back which I pretty much focus on looseness control and brush strokes. Also if you like comics style pin up painting, check out Emma Frost X-men first class and 2011 is year of the rabbit. Both are not really focus on brush work, rather smooth rendering of the skin itself. And Black Rock Shooter color sketch work is a really stylize that is similar to that of Anime or stylize Manga, but not typical.
Here is what I have so far: I will call it "Saturday Morning"

Funimation BLURAY Region Coding
I had always hoped that the BLURAY format would mostly eliminate the old region coding scheme, but it hasn't worked that way in all cases. There is Region Coding for BDs, but (unlike with DVD format) the use of region coding for BD disks is optional for content providers. I've read that something around 70% of available BD Discs from the major studios are Region Code FREE and can therefore be played anywhere.Region coding for Anime BD's is even stranger, because North America shares the same region as Japan, so coding will not prevent re-imports which is always a major concern to the Japanese. Most current North American Anime BD releases are Region Free - except those from Funimation, and since we've recently gotten a few requests we have gone ahead and added BD Region Code info to the item pages for all of Funi's current BD releases.
So every one understands, BD Disk region coding divides the world into 3 regions:
A) Region A (that's us) includes most North, Central and South American and Southeast Asian countries plus Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong
B) Region B includes most European, African and southwest Asian countries plus Australia and New Zealand.
C) Region C contains the remaining central and south Asian countries, as well as China and Russia.
