For real, I can only wish, I am just saying what if...

Anyway, More Robotech info:
according to the Hollywood Reporter, Tobey Maguire is going to produce, and possibly star in, a live-action movie based on the Robotechaka Macross TV series Anyone who got into the show in the mid-Eighties will tell you that Robotech had a level of depth and realism well beyond that of any other animated series on US television at the time, which isn't at all surprising considering its Japanese origins (Robotech is credited with helping introduce anime to American audiences). Anyway, hopefully Tobey won't dumb things down like Michael Bay did with the Transformers movie. It was tough enough discovering a few years later that the entire show was actually three entirely different Japanese anime series awkwardly grafted together so that they'd have enough episodes for syndication in the US market -- turning Robotech into yet another mindless action fest might just be too much to take.
*I really have no idea if Johansson will be cast into this but she will appear with Natalie Portman in the up coming film "The Other Boleyn Girl."

The actor Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) will head the "Robotech" live action movie.

Maguire, across his company Maguire Entertainment, it will be initially producer of the tape, which rights were bought by Warner Bros.

After slipping on a mask for Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire might be slipping into a giant robot for "Robotech." After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment banner and is eyeing the lead role in what the studio plans on being a tentpole sci-fi franchise. Q: I love the one with Miss Portman. I just wish there was more explanation about what you were doing when you are laying down the underpainting, as well as screen shots of what you were doing in phothshop. Do you have any real time paintings that show you going step by step through the program?

A: Thanks, I often sometimes miss some content that I want to explain on certain videos, but mostly I try to spell out what I know. I wish I know more, really. If you want to know how to select color and palette, Richard Schmidth's book is what I highly recommend. He explain value, color, and how to figure. He is one of the best contemporary artist/ Oil painter. Color and value Principle also apply the same to digital painting. It's one of the best book ever recommended to me. He is a true master. -Alla Prima: Everything I Know About Painting (Richard Schmidth) -Oil Painting for the Serious Beginner: Basic Lessons in Becoming a Good Painter

Great Exercises for you and anyone.
-Practice gray scale illustration (from black to white or acromatic) get it nail down as much as you could.
-Practice drawing using ONLY Black and White
-Do a gray scale painting and add one color (with its value) (monocromatic)
-Do a gray scale and apply three colors palette.
These should help you understand how to apply color

As for a real time video, there are good reason people and I won't do it. 1) No one would really have the patience to watch it for full half hours or 40 mins. 2) They won't let me upload that big of a file. Keep practicing, for us artist that's the best way to learn...there is no short cut. Also keep watching everyday as I progress...or hoping to get better also :)

Q: Xia, when you are drawing the values on Portman's face, what colors were you using from the color palette and how were you selecting your colors?

A: I actually focus on the value primary, then edge...color is not really my focus they come from my palette. The outcome is pretty much the result of the value and edge in my painting (sound confused, but it really is not). Look for Ander Zorn, he can paint using only 5 colors limited palette. Try to get cool and warm in balance.

Q: Are there more tutorials for photoshop out there that show step by step drawing and the settings and selections they are making on the palette for photoshop?

A: Don't worry so much about color or palette UNLESS you are aiming for school of Monet style and early impressionism. VALUE (lighting) is more important to me, and simplify value if you are going for manga or anime illustration. I hope I make some sense. Personally, color choice is a mere decision or arrangement of cool and warm (temperature) of over all pic and how vibrant you want it to be. Keep it simple. :) If you really want to know more, Schmidth (-Alla Prima: Everything I Know About Painting by Richard Schmidth) is the best book on painting, everything value and color.

I have two questions to ask you if it's not to much trouble.

1. What is your opinion on using the freeware Program Gimp over Adobe PhotoShop considering I have a constraining budget at the moment.

2. I am currently having a hard time figuring out were to go from here. You see I am proficient at drawing a near exact recreation of most art I see, the problem though is that when I try creating original art I can never seem to realize the images I see in my mind.

These two points have me quite frustrated at the moment so any advice would be extremely helpful.

Hi

1) There is no need for PS, just pencil and paper...make them GREAT and Exceptional in drawing skill. Program are just tool like pencil, people can judge you by your traditional skill of how good you are.

2) I know people like that. The catch is, you have to practice...look for all kind of inspiration from online, offline, forum, etc. Get some idea together...or you can start with some easy shape and form of cartooning...then go from there. Also practice life drawing, drawing from real life with the limited time frame...it will practice your brain to have a natural flow and be more efficient and economy in using line, shape and form. Practice make perfect,...when you try something new out of your comfort zone, the first few or more might not be good, but keep doing it....you will see the big step up from where you start. Keep going and don't be discourage.

Robotech aka "Macross" NEWS (Live Action Movie) project to release 2010

Good news, you will get to see the Robotech (Macross) comes to life.
The actor Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) will head the "Robotech" live action movie.

Maguire, across his company Maguire Entertainment, it will be initially producer of the tape, which rights were bought by Warner Bros.

Maguire not only would occupy producer's cargo in the movie. since also his idea would be to be the protagonist of the movie version of this classic, The script for the big screen will be written by Craig Zahler.

One of my favorite series when I was a kid, Macross. This is actually the first time I ever attempt to draw it. :P
