Questions from Viewers!!!
First off, apologized for replying any of these message so late. And thanks for all YOUR KINDS words and generous regards and e-mails. I would give you all a Panda if I can. Thank you for the support for idrawgirls.com
Q: I was hoping you'd enlighten me as to what brushes you use to do your lighting?? Your lighting always looks so natural and I can never achieve a similar result. When I use a brush and lower the opacity the difference in tones is very harsh and doesn't look natural
A: First, I usually pick the lighter value using screen layer then I merge down (or I will just use dodge brush on the layer depending on the end result I am looking for). I don't work with multiple layer, I like to feel like I am painting over like traditional medium. Then I will use 70-100% opacity to lay down color. I don't really keep layers around, I like painting on the base layer. I like to keep it simple, thus smaller file size.
As for low opacity 30-50% I only use it for construction sketch lines and soft brush blending. It just my personal working progress. When I paint or start underpainting (base color) I will use 100% then 70-100% to establish the ground work.
**Also make sure you have sensitivity pressure set on your pen (even if you set 100%) when you go light it will be lighter than 100%
**Key: keep your color solid and simple in each value area.
Q: What size canvas do you start out with? pixels/inch?
A: Ususally around 700 px range then > 2000px. I did that so that my computer doesn't slow down at the underpainting stage. I usually like to go fast so that I can see things change and correct lighting and composition and such.
BUT if your computer doesn't have such slow down effect, then it doesn't matter, you can work around 200 pix per inches. Also if you scan stuff in 200 pix per inches is the best.
Q: The music is really great, do you have a playlist listed somewhere?
A: Nope, sorry...I download all free stuff from indie artists from Cnet. Maybe I should get a playlist...how do I do that?
Q: I hope you don't mind i found your email on your page.
A: Not at all, thanks for the feedback.
