Maybe some of you have seen it if you ever been to my personal site. I found it while transferring file onto new drive. I don't think I ever post this one on the blog. So I thought I would share it with ya.

It's was done in 2006, took me a totally of a week or so to figure out things and things.

Dynasty Warrior inspired Manga style drawing Zhu Clan Warrior woman sketch.

Dynasty Warrior inspired Manga style drawing Zhu Clan Warrior woman sketch. I love Dynasty warrior, but I do play a lot of Ramancing of The Three Kingdoms a lot when I was a kid. This sketch basically my character concept idea that heavily influence by the genre. Except I make it a bit more stylize.

The sketch I again used black ball-pointed pen (beause I have it right by my side). Next time I will try to find some pencil and use them. I was trying to record myself drawing with traditional medium and found that it's not that convenience since I only have a small web-cam and tiny little Sony flip. I am going to need a real camera and the proper set up for that.
But Yes, I really plan to do a pencil drawing process. It's now depending on how soon I can get the better camera and the set up.

If I have sometimes and feel like, then I will probably take it further in render and such. But for now...just a rough sketch.

Guild Wars: Girls Fan Art

Since we are done with Guild Wars and now we are moving on to the new generation (GW 2), I thought I might revisit and do something fun with some of the old character that I designed. Sometimes, it's useful and refreshing looking at older work and rethink and evaluate yourself as an artist. Can I call it "Fan Art"?

The guys over here at ArenaNet are trying very hard to find the newest MMO technology for GW2. As for the Art team, we are very excited about the project as if it was a brand new project. We are trying to reinvent everything, but we want to still feel that wow, this is THE GuildWar IP. Daniel Dociu (The Man, Art director) and the concept team come up with lots and lots of very visually stunning. I can't wait to see what they would look like on screen. I love the team over here at ArenaNet, they are over the top. Anyway, ...here is art!

How to draw a girl figure: Quick Video painting tutorial

Hello again ladies and gents,

This is basically a video tutorial of How to draw or paint a girl figure in action shot. But then I mix and match a little conceptual idea here and there to spice it up.

This one I just start out for fun, just another excuse to draw girl. I had some kind of action shot in mind but with out foreshortening. Because I just want to practice painting skin, anatomy and style. This one took me a bit longer than I thought (a few hours, it's getting harder to find more time to do more art since my girlfriend's already back from a vacation. But I will fight for it, this is what I do!). Anyhow, in the first version, she is totally naked for no good reason, except my own. So I thought I should dress her up a little bit more like PG13. I am still afraid to go too overboard since I am blogging and I never know if there will be any young audience.

In my opinion, which I have none so I don't know. I don't really judge, I am just trying to art in Photo Shop.

I know, it 's been a while since I did anything decent. This one isn't bad. It was really quick, I just has the image in my head then I just begin to wing it from scratch...straight in one sitting about an hour or so. *Usually whenever I do that it turn out better than getting up, taking a short break, or chitchat* Anyway, I might have a tutorial for this one later.

It is somehow has most of my personality to this image. Spontaneous, loose and fun brush strokes...it goes wherever it wants yet, it is exactly where it supposed to be. It's not trying to be a good illustration, it is just simply trying to be itself. And that how I really wish every single time I can consistently pull if off like this one or better yet the 'KEEPER".

A guy who work with me used to work for "WarHammer" said she could be "Sister Sigmar" stripping down though they are not in anyway related.

A Girl painting and Cyclop monster.

Another quickie for today, this one I pick some random stuff in my scribblely sketch book. Then just quickly painted over just for fun. The girl on the shoulder, I added later on to spice it up. I love using the rule of contrast. Huge and tiny, strong and vulnerable and such it make the image a bit more interesting to me when there's such contrast. It could also giving you something to think about of why? and such.
This one is pretty quick (probably an hour and half), but it turn out like how I want it to be pretty much. Except I could work on the girl face a bit more, but time's up.

As you can see, my sketch is very scribble that's why I called it scribble. It really it, it even sometimes carry on to my painting. I did it the way it is just to put an idea down as fast as I can. Once in a while I would go in and refine my sketch just for practicing purpose. But then when I tighten it up, it tend to loose energy and randomness of line. But it is give and take, you gain some, you loose some.

Speedpainting concept: Dragon and a Girl.

Another quickie for today:
This one I struggled quite a bit because I had the dragon design on the thumbnail comp, but I could not find the way to put the girl in there without changing composition. I wrestled with it for a few hours changing lot of poses and placement for the girl. Mainly because the figure would change the focal point and if I give the figure more form and contrast, then it doesn't seem fair to the Dragon. Anyway, you get the idea. Finally, I figured, if I just make her less contrast, loose and blend in with the background a bit, this might work out. Then the composition would not change so much and the focal point will still be the dragon. So it did the trick.

I am still looking for a particular look for my personal work which I have not done much of it in the past few years. I am hoping to be able to finish some real illustration before the end of the year. As you notice most of my work are somewhat loose and I didn't take it to the point of refinement. That's usually how I work, but once in a while if there are some quick painting that I really really think it could be taken further and it will look great. I usually go for it. Time is a big issue, good illustration takes time. And I love doing quick painting, you sit for a few hours or less get it out of your system then walk away. Every time you get to do something new, it really refreshing rather than spend days, weeks, months on one illustration. But a finished illustration will give you a different perspective, discipline and sense of perfection. All the element of being a good artist and elevate the skills level the more you do.

Work take pretty much most of my time, and Guild Wars II will even take more of my time because we have a lot of exciting thing to look forward to. Especially for me as an artist, the better technology for online gaming, the better and the more we can do crazy things. Anyway, you all have a great weekend.

Speedpainting using Photoshop: A Girl with a Monster

This is another character or creature concept art (painting). This one is coming along the same line as "KEEPER". I actually drew out this one before I got an idea for the "Keeper", but it was too scribblely (is that a word?). So I have to kind of figure out what was it that I drew. I kind of like the mixture of mysterious scary element and beauty of female figure so most of my personal art tend to be like that. I also tend to add a personality to the girl, like this one she looks a bit pissed off.
Some of You might call it a little erotic, but I'd say this is nothing close to what I have in my sketchbook. I tone it down a bit for public display purpose and for the kids. Recently I found most of the time when I attempt to create something with such combination, it turn out well. Maybe I should keep going with that theme for a little while.

Girl of the day! "Robot Bride" Just for fun, the weekend was great but it was a little too short. I have no idea why I drew this pic...or I forgot where I got inspired from. Too many bachalorette's parties I ran into? Maybe...Yeah with the balloon and all that got to be it! At first, I was going to make some kind of a doll cyborg or something like that...yeah. But then things change a little bit here and there.
And this is how it ends up. Fun stuff with Photoshop!

Anime Concept painting: Great Mazinger.

Here is "Girl of The day!" With the Retro Robot: "Great Mazinger". I remember when I was four or five I watch the rerun of this Japanese anime serie. I was blow away, he can shoot out his fists and fighting evil dinosaurs.
Lately I have been looking at old stuff to get inspire, 1970s was probably the best era to look at all the cool brilliant ideas, like Gatcha Man, Getter Robo, Karmen Raider and more. These were probably made before my days, but I have watch the rerun when I was growing up and those image probably inspire me as who I am. I remember trying to draw those robot and make up story as I go when I was a kid. Those are the good old days.

Guild Wars: Eyes of the North launch at midnight last night, I was there working it, partying and waiting for the launching moment. Good time guys...until Guild Wars II. Thanks for all the people that support us and you!

Just update the BLOG layout to make it more efficient and more attractive to reader and myself. It's almost complete. It took me a while to learn all the code and figure our how to make a third column. And it COOL!
Also I just acquire and domain "www.idrawgirls.com". I didn't think it was available, but my friend check it out and it was empty. So right at that second, I jump on the internet and get it! That makes my day. Who would think the easy domain is still around.

I also add the RSS feed and e-mail subscription so that you don't have to always come back here if there is nothing new. So go ahead and subscribe, and no...I won't give your e-mail to anyone. Lots of stuff to learn to make my BLOG effective and fun.

I has this idea a couple days ago..but just sketch it out last night. This evil monster from Hell is feeding on living girls' soul.
I am playing around with how I want to paint...I love realism painterly like image but I also love comics and Manga. There are some particular element I am looking forward to achieve, I think this speedpainting I somehow found, just a little progress of how I want my work to look like.
I am getting there.

I will have to find sometimes soon to do a quick painting video demo tutorial. I find that doing a quick two to five minutes sketch tutorial would be easier at the moment. A digital painting demo would take hours so I am going to need to find the right tool for it. At the moment, I am just using a free software to screen record my sketching process, nothing fancy. It's a pain to use sometimes because it's conflict with my Photoshop Hotkeys, and I can customize it (because it's free). Anyway...hopefully, I should find some more efficient program to record my digital painting demo soon. Until then...
